Dr. Meikle is the author of: American Plastic: A Cultural History (winner of the Society for the History of Technology's Dexter Prize for 1996); Twentieth Century Limited: Industrial Design in America, 1925-l939; and Design in the Contemporary World. He is co-author of Donald Deskey: Decorative Designs and Interiors.

He has also contributed articles to numerous anthologies, exhibition catalogues, and journals; acted as a consultant to the Art Institute of Chicago, the Wolfsonian Foundation, and the National Museum of American History; and served as a specialist with a traveling USIA exhibition, "Design USA," in Almaty, Kazakstan. He serves on the editorial boards of Design Issues, Journal of Design History, and Studies in the Decorative Arts.
Dr. Meikle's scholarship centers on American design and architecture, the cultural impact of science and technology, and contemporary literature. He is currently writing Design in the U.S. for the "Oxford History of Art" series.
