Kate Morrison Catterall is an Associate Professor of Design in the Department of Art and Art History, at the University of Texas at Austin, and currently serves as Assistant Chair for the Design Division.

Catterall, originally from Belfast in Northern Ireland, studied at The Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. Her design work has been exhibited extensively at venues such as the New York and Istanbul International Furniture Fairs, the Whitney Museum’s store, the Orlando Museum of Art and at “SIT“, a biennial seating exhibition at the Business Design Centre in London. Catterall currently writes about design, exhibits her more experimental projects in gallery spaces, and undertakes furniture, interior and public art/design commissions for selected clients through Catterall Design LLC, her practice in Austin, Texas.

In addition to courses taught as part of the established Design curriculum, Kate Catterall regularly participates in collaborative teaching ventures with the School of Engineering. Recently establishing the Texas Design Institute as a project portal for such projects with colleagues Dr. Steve Nichols and Dr. Ron Matthews, in the School of Engineering.

Catterall has also led study abroad programs to London and Milan. The Design in Context: Milan course is scheduled for the summer of 2008.
