After working professionally in the field of Design for several years, Associate Professor Olsen returned to school to earn his M.F.A. in Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art. While his work places emphasis on the investigation of the photographic image in design, through gallery work, recent investigations include the applications of similar conceptual ideas embodied in the utilitarian aspects of furniture and spaces. He has worked as a designer in the Netherlands with Hard Werken and his work has been exhibited nationally and internationally at venues including the Axis Gallery in Tokyo, Japan, the Stealcase Design Partnership in New York City, the Galleria de la Municipalidad de Mirafloras in Lima, Peru, and  several pieces have been distributed by Emigre Graphics through various publications. Professor Olsen also serves as the Graduate Advisor for the M.F.A. in Design.
