M.F.A. in Design, Financial Aid

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees for the entire two-year, 60-credit hour M.F.A. in Design, at rates in effect on September 1, 2008 are about $23,000 for Texas residents and $44,500 for non-residents of Texas. Tuition and fees are established by the Texas State Legislature and are subject to change.

Non-resident Tuition Waivers

The Faculty's goal is to make awards to all non-resident and international students that waive the non-resident portion of tuition. Therefore it is very likely that each admitted student will be charged resident tuition. All non-resident students are automatically considered for this scholarship. Students do not need to apply for it.

Recruitment Fellowships

A limited number of recruitment fellowships will be offered to accepted applicants based primarily on their application portfolios. All applicants are automatically considered for these fellowships. Students do not need to apply for these directly. These fellowships range from $1,000 - $10,000.

Continuing Fellowships

The faculty offer a limited number of fellowships to students continuing in the second year of the program. These fellowships are based primarily on all aspects of the student's performance in the first year and range from $1,000 to $5,000.

Teaching Assistantships (TAs)

Teaching Assistants (TAs) assist faculty members in classrooms and/or monitor open-laboratory periods. These 10-hour a week positions, usually for second-year students, are based on institutional need and budgetary limitations. Salary is $2,625 per semester with an additional payment of $1,625 in tuition assistance for a total compensation of $4,250 a semester.

Student Loans and Grants

Graduate students are automatically eligible for Federal Stafford loans as independent students. Students should file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as soon as their application to the graduate school has been submitted, and they have completed their federal tax return. The FAFSA code for UT is 003658. Review the University's Office of Student Financial Services. Questions? Ask DON: Data On-Line or call (512) 475-6282.
