audio/video hook up

audio

diagram of computer audio hookup

the audio input/output takes only stereo-mini plug connectors. do not try to plug anything else in to it. when audio equipment is connected to the sound input port, you can hear or record the incoming sound on the computer. when audio equipment is connected to the sound output port, you can record the sound produced by the computer or play that sound through external speakers.

video

diagram of computer video hookup

the input port brings in images from connected external equipment, such as a vcr or hi8 camera. the output port sends images out from the computer to the external equipment. when using a vcr which uses composite (or rca) plugs you must use the s-video-to-composite adapter. the adapter and a s-video cable look identical on the s-video end. it is a round plug with several small metal pins. When inserting it into the s-video port the flat side of the connector should face up.
