Sandra C. Fernández was born in Queens, New York and spent her formative years in Quito, Ecuador. She has resided in the United States since 1987. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Art degree and a Master of Art at University of Wisconsin in Madison, she studied printmaking techniques at “Taller Tres en Raya” in Madrid, Spain. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has taught courses in Introductory and Advanced Photography, Non-Silver Processes, Artist’s Books and Book Design at Illinois State University, Illinois Wesleyan University and State University of New York at Buffalo. Ms. Fernández has exhibited nationally and internationally with more than 15 solo shows and numerous collectives. She has received New York Foundation for the Arts grants and was selected for the Pan-am Public Art Project: Art Without Borders, Women’s Pavilion in Buffalo New York. She recently completed the SERIE Project Artist Residency at Coronado Studio, a Latino Arts organization in Austin Texas. Her awards include the Women of Color Slide Portfolio: Hispanic National Juried Project. She has given Artist talks at many Universities in the U.S. and also abroad. Fernández’s works are held by private, public and corporate collectors from the United States, Canada, Europe and Latin America including the Kohler Art Library in Madison Wisconsin, Bibliotèque Nationale in Paris France, the MexicArt Museum in Austin Texas, and the Art Collection of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics.
