Teresa Hubbard, Associate Professor of Photography, received her B.F.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and went on to graduate studies at Yale University and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Canada, where she earned her M.F.A. in 1992. Before relocating to Austin in 2000, Hubbard was based for more than a decade in Basel, Switzerland and Berlin, Germany. Hubbard has taught in interdisciplinary fields of photography, digital imaging and sculpture in universities and art academies in Canada, Germany and Switzerland.
Working in collaboration with the Swiss artist, Alexander Birchler, since 1992, their photographs and video installations have been exhibited nationally and internationally. Recent solo museum exhibitions include the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria, New York, Museum of Contemporary Art (Museum fuer Gegenwartskunst) Basel, Switzerland, Huis Marseille Foundation for Photography, Amsterdam, Netherlands, Museum Haus Lange and Museum Haus Esters, Krefeld, Germany. Upcoming solo museum exhibitions include the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea, Santiago de Compostela, Spain and the Modern Museum Fort Worth.
Hubbard's work is in numerous private and public collections around the world and is represented by Gallery Bob van Orsouw, Zürich, Gallery Barbara Thumm, Berlin, Gallery Vera Munro, Hamburg and Tanya Bonakdar Gallery, New York. She is a nominated finalist for the Rockefeller Media Arts Award and in Spring 2005 her work will be featured on "Art in the 21st Century" a national PBS broadcast program about contemporary art.
