Associate Professor Petersen earned his B.F.A. from the Art Institute of Chicago and his M.F.A. from the University of Georgia. He has been awarded a Mid-America Arts Alliance National Endowment for the Arts Award in Painting and a one year Artist-In-Residence Grant from the Roswell Museum Art Center in Roswell, New Mexico. He has had three one person exhibitions at the Zaks Gallery in Chicago, an exhibition at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama, and an exhibition at the Roswell Museum and Art Center, Roswell, New Mexico. Group exhibitions have included the Aspen Art Museum, the University of New Mexico, Audrey Shall Gallery in Memphis, Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, Purdue University, Zaks Gallery in Chicago, and the University of Colorado. His work is included in the Continental Bank and Kemper Insurance Company collections, both in Chicago, as well as other corporate and private collections.
