Assistant Professor Dan Sutherland received a B.F.A. from James Madison University in 1988 and an M.F.A. from Syracuse University in 1991. Dan has had several two person shows in San Antonio, Chicago, and Philadelphia and has been included in many regional invitational and juried shows since coming to Texas in 1991. Dan's awards include an Art Pace Foundation London Studio Program Grant, 1994, City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Cultural Affairs Grant, 1993–94, and Leopold Schepp Foundation Grant, 1988–91. Dan was also involved with the Blue Star Art Space and the San Antonio Art Community before moving to Austin in 1995.
