After coming to The University of Texas at Austin in 1976 as coordinator of Student Field Experiences in Art, Professor Brooks has remained active as a liaison between area public schools and the department. In 1987 she was the recipient of the College of Fine Arts Foxworth Fellowship; following in 1989 with the co-directorship of a Curriculum Implementation Grant from the Texas Education Agency. In 1990 she received the Texas Art Education Association's Art Educator of the Year Award for Higher Education, and in 1991, the National Art Education Association Art Educator of the year, western division. Dr. Brooks is co-author of two nationally successful textbooks: The Way of Art: Inner Vision, Outer Expression; and Through Their Eyes: A Sequentially Developed Art Program, as well as author of Inside Art: Culture, History, Expression. In addition, she has presented numerous invited papers and workshops throughout the country.
