How do I get on-site computer support?
The ITS Help Desk (X 2-0900) is trained to trouble shoot most problems on a computer with you over the telephone, so very few incidents actually require on-site support. The Help Desk support staff member who answers your call makes the decision for on-site support if they feel a solution cannot be obtained via a telephone consult. If they determine this then the team member will create a work order and you will be contacted by a desktop consultant within one business day (Monday-Friday)
I am having a problem with my mainframe access. How do I know if my mainframe problem is due to problems with my computer or the mainframe, and who should I call in case of either malfunction?
If you can get to the tower screen, but can get no farther than that, you need to call ACS at 1-8800. If you cannot get to the tower screen, then call 2-0900 and explain the problem to the ITS help desk.
My computer crashed for no reason, and does this from time to time. What can I do?
Computers need to be restarted from time to time. Try restarting your computer at least once a week and see if this helps the problem at all.
Something is not working (keyboard, mouse, computer, or printer). What should I do?
Make sure that all cords are connected properly and that the items are indeed on the on position. Also make sure the surge protector the computer is plugged into is on. It is also helpful to make sure that no items are resting on the computer keyboard-this will also cause the mouse to not work. If this doesn't solve your problem call ITS helpdesk (2-0900)

I am interested in backing up my computer, any advice?
There are two kinds of hard drives... those that have failed, and those that are going to fail. Please backup your files. A simple and easy solution is to buy a zip or cd-r and back up your files if you are not on an automatic backup system like retrospect (if you are not sure contact your system administrator). You may want to back up your documents folder and your email folder. More documentation can be found on your system's help file.
What are the OSX keyboard shortcuts?

All of my mail is going directly into the trash. Why is this happening?
Check your filters — it is probable that you have selected as a filter-to-trash your email address rather than the email address of the sender in question.
