Event Title: Cancelled Talk with Dr. Elizabeth Bonjean
Event Description:

Talk with Dr. Elizabeth Bonjean: Bearing Witness: Memory, Terrorism, and the Moscow Theatre Siege

Friday November 6 at 2:00 pm
WIN 2.112

Dr. Bonjean works with performances of cultural memory in response to grief and violence.
She will share some of her work on the 2002 hostage crisis at the Ball Bearing Factory Theatre during a performance of the Russian musical Nord-Ost, focusing on the performances of cultural memory enacted by both the Chechen guerillas and the Russians inside and outside the space of the theatre. The performances are shaped by the cultural significance attached to the musical, the ritualization of death, and the violent struggle between the separatist republic of Chechnya and the Russian Federation to assert their unique national identities.
