PARAMOUNT PICTURES NAMES DAN BUTLER SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, BUSINESS AFFAIRS & LEGAL, MUSIC
HOLLYWOOD, CA - Paramount Pictures has named Dan Butler (B.A. in Drama, 1982) Senior Vice President, Business Affairs & Legal, Music.
Butler will be responsible for negotiating deals with composers, songwriters, co-publishers, music supervisors, record labels, recording artists and producers for Paramount's motion pictures, soundtrack albums, and home entertainment releases. In addition, Butler will handle the acquisition of copyrights in new compositions and master recordings.
Butler joins Paramount after eight years spent at Warner Bros., where he served most recently as Senior Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs - Music. There, Butler negotiated music agreements for the studio's theatrical projects and accompanying soundtrack albums ("Superman Returns," "The Matrix" Trilogy, "Happy Feet"), animated television series ("The Batman," "Justice League") and DVD/video releases ("The Animatrix"). From 1999-2006, Butler served as Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs - Music. He joined Warner Bros. in 1998 as Director of Business and Legal Affairs.
Before Warner Bros., Butler was Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs for Rysher Entertainment's Music department, where he negotiated all the music agreements for Rysher's films and television series. While there, he also negotiated an overall music publishing administration deal for the company's catalog, and supervised music clearance and litigation matters.
Prior to Rysher, Butler served as Director of Business Affairs and Senior Counsel for MGM/UA Music, working on such films as "Goldeneye," "Get Shorty" and "The Bird Cage."
Butler began his legal career as an associate at Hill Wynne Troop & Meisinger. He is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences and has served as President and Vice President of the California Copyright Conference.
Butler received his J.D. From UCLA, his BA from the University of Texas at Austin and is a member of the California State Bar.
