Xochi Solis Named Creative Research Laboratory Assistant Director

The Department of Art and Art History has named Xochi Quintanilla Solis the new Assistant Director of the Creative Research Laboratory (CRL). She will curate exhibitions for 2009/2010, as well as serve as the departmental contact person for the Creative Research Laboratory.

Solis received her B.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Texas at Austin in 2005. In the course of her academic work, she studied abroad in both Tuscany and Mexico City, a city she continues to visit often. Solis's work has been exhibited most recently in the current edition of the New Art in Austin: 20 to Watch at the Austin Museum of Art and Mexic–Arte Museum's annual Young Latino Art exhibition. She has been an active member of Austin's visual arts community since graduation, working with both commercial and non–profit art institutions. Prior to her most recent position as the Executive Director of the 2009 Texas Biennial, she served as the Gallery Director of Volitant Gallery. In addition to managing the Creative Research Laboratory, she will continue as a participating member of MASS Gallery, an artist–run project space in East Austin.
