Lord & Taylor department store in New York City is celebrating the performing arts in New York with an exhibit of drawings by "artist extraordinaire" and Theatre & Dance alumnus Michael Arthur (Ph.D. in Theatre History & Criticism, 1999), January 13–29, 2006. To mark the occasion of the Juilliard School's 100th anniversary, the store asked Arthur, who specializes in capturing the creative process of the rehearsals of dance and theatre, to create original pen and in drawings of the school's music students at work.

Arthur's drawings convey the excitement of live performances with expressive energy and subtle detail. For the Lord & Taylor exhibit, each sketch has been enlarged from its original size to fit the large shades that cover fourteen of the store's windows while its elaborate christmas scenes are being dismantled. Recorded jazz and classical music by Juilliard faculty and students will accompany.

This exhibit is in keeping with Lord & Taylor's tradition of showcasing original art work in its Fifth Avenue windows. Prior exhibits include ancient Chinese calligraphy and selected works by Larry Rivers, Richard Estes, Thiery Despont, Manolo Valdes, Red Grooms and Chakaia Booker as well as D.A. Pennebaker's groundbraking short film, daybreak express.
