Graduate student nominated for KM Fabrics, Inc. award in Technical Production

Derek Moon honored for thesis work

Derek Moon, third year M.F.A. student in Theatre Technology, was nominated for this award based on his career in technical management both in the arts and information technology and also on his thesis, in which he is designing/implementing a new information management system for the UT Performing Arts Center scene shop.

KM Fabrics, Inc. Technical Production Award is given to a young designer or technician who has demonstrated excellence or outstanding potential in the area of technical direction or production management in the performing arts while pursuing a graduate degree. The material submitted by applicants should demonstrate excellence in areas such as: construction, drafting, computer applications, effective use of resources, research, rigging, engineering, personnel management.

Derek's work was recently featured in UT's production of Ashes, Ashes.

The award winner will be announced at the upcoming USITT convention in March 2008.
