Theatre and Dance student Jaclyn Pryor wins Creative Programming Award for her project "Bread"

Performance as Public Practice Ph.D. student Jaclyn Pryor is one of two recipients of a Creative Programming Award for her project "Bread" in First Night Austin 2006. Ms. Pryor represented Austin's First Night by presenting her project (along with four other presentations by other cities) in Charlottesville, VA during the First Night International Conference.

"Bread" brought Austinites together to celebrate the New Year by placing 2006 loaves of bread on people's doorsteps, who were in turn invited to march in a processional to Town Lake for a “taslikh” or bread-crumb-release into the lake, making one last wish for the New Year. Find out more information about the project at www.bread2006.blogspot.com.

First Night Austin is a public celebration of the arts that revives the ancient tradition of marking the passage of time with art, ritual, and festivity. It is a family-friendly, affordable, and alcohol free New Year's Eve festival. First Night Austin is a new tradition for Austin that celebrates the culturally rich and artistically diverse place we call home.
