Texas Exes sponsors annual Student Job Shadowing Program
Every spring, the Student Job Shadowing program strives to strengthen ties between Texas Exes and current students. Job Shadowing has helped many students learn the truths (not found in a textbook) about various industries and professions, and it is a growing program for the Texas Exes Student Chapter. As such, we are inviting and collecting alumni in all professions to help us create this learning experience again.
It's invaluable to have alumni volunteers who share their collegiate and professional experiences and impact students' lives and career paths through Job Shadowing. The program is designed to facilitate networking opportunities and professional relationships throughout the Longhorn community. Students gain insight into different career paths by "shadowing" a Texas Ex for a day.
Job Shadowing week will take place from March 12-16, 2007 when students travel throughout Texas during UT's official Spring Break. This year, the program aims to facilitate shadowing opportunities throughout the entire state of Texas. Job Shadowing matches won't occur for all alumni mentors and students; however, the program highly encourages shadowing in person, over the phone, and/or other electronic means to increase successful matching probabilities.
As always, participating alumni decide their own level of participation. Students will be carefully paired with alumni based on similar career interests and majors. The student that most closely matches your profile will then contact you to set up a time and place where he/she can shadow you. The Alumni Relations Committee understands that not all careers lend themselves to "shadowing". In these cases, the same goal can be accomplished through a telephone conversation, lunch, or email.
If you are interested in impacting the life of a UT student, please complete a Job Shadowing Profile (we want to display your most current information) online at www.texasexes.org/form/js.asp before Wednesday, March 7, 2007. Students will start accessing profiles on Monday, February 26. If a match occurs, you will receive an email notification by Friday, March 9. The Student Chapter wants to maximize the number of alumni participating, so please feel free to spread the word about TESC's Shadowing Week to Texas Ex co-workers, friends, and family.
Thank you and Hook 'Em!
