Professor Holly Williams has been appointed Senior Associate Chair of the Department of Theatre & Dance, effective August 1, 2006. Prior to her appointment, Williams served as head of the MFA dance program and head of the performance unit. Williams has taught at the University of Texas for more than ten years, during which she coordinated the American College Dance Festival South Central Conference in 2006. She also serves as the program director of the Department's two US Performing Arts summer programs for youth.
In addition to her professorship, Williams is a working choreographer and dance administrator. Her choreography for the Houston Grand Opera, Dallas Opera, Austin Lyric Opera, Austin Theatre Alliance and the Dallas Theatre Center has won her national acclaim. She served as a dance panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts in 2004, and has worked with renowned companies - Mark Morris, Laura Dean and Jose Limon. She currently serves on the board of directors of the Dance Critics Association and the American College Dance Festival Association.
Williams earned her MFA from Texas Woman's University, where she received the 2001 Distinguished Alumnae Award in Dance in 2001. She earned her BA from Barnard College/Columbia University.
