Hale received his M.F.A. from the University of Illinois, Champaign/Urbana. His paintings, prints, and drawings have been widely exhibited and collected. One–person exhibitions have been held in numerous cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Bangkok, Madrid, Dallas, San Francisco, Ft. Worth, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. Professor Hale's prints are represented in collections such as the Whitney Museum of American Art, The National Museum of American Art, Washington DC, the Achenbach Foundation, San Francisco, the Atlantic Richfield Collection, the American Airlines Collection, the McNay Art Museum, the Chicago Art Institute, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Modern Art Museum of Ft. Worth.</p> <p>This exciting exhibition of new work produced summer 2009 showcases Hale’s pursuits with digital and collage works on paper evolving from his recent series, <em>Now and Then</em> and <em>The Same Only Different</em>. An internationally respected artist and art educator, he has conducted the bulk of his career in Austin. A Professor Emeritus in UT-Austin's Department of Art and Art History, he co-authored four, major text books in art education and mentored&#8212;and inspired&#8212;hundreds of art teachers during his forty years of teaching at UT. Fearing has received innumerable awards and has been the subject of many museum exhibitions. He was selected as the Texas Tribute Artist for the 2009 Texas Biennial; in 2008 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Center for the Study of Early Texas Art; in 2007 he received the prestigious E. William Doty Award from UT-Austin's College of Fine Arts; and he was inducted into the Austin Arts Hall of Fame in 2003.</p> <p>The exhibition provides a brief introduction to the massive amount of art that Kelly Fearing has created during his long and distinguished career. Included are a few of his early works, many mid-career pieces, and a few items fresh from his studio in West Lake Hills. It is a modest tribute to Fearing’s notable career. His admirers may see some of their favorites here, and viewers discovering his work for the first time will hopefully be inspired to see more by this exceptional artist.</p> Mon, 23 Nov 2009 8:00:02 AM CST http://www.finearts.utexas.edu/events/detail.cfm?calset=cfa&id=2200 <p><em>Paolo Veronese: The Petrobelli Altarpiece</em><br /> <em>Reconstructing a Renaissance Masterpiece</em><br /> October 4, 2009&#8211;February 7, 2010</p> <p>The Blanton Museum of Art recently announced an important discovery regarding a work by Venetian master Paolo Veronese (1528 – 1588). <em>Head of an Angel</em>, a painting from the Blanton's Suida Manning collection, has been identified as a fragment of a long-lost Veronese masterpiece. Dr. Xavier Salomon, a Veronese expert and curator of the Dulwich Picture Gallery outside London, confirmed the fragment to be the head of Saint Michael, the central figure in the so-called Petrobelli altarpiece from 1565. Three other fragments from the altarpiece were previously identified in the collections of Dulwich, The National Gallery of Canada at Ottawa, and the National Gallery of Scotland, Edinburgh. These works, along with the Blanton's newly identified Saint Michael, will be reunited for the first time in more than two centuries. In October 2009, The Blanton will present the reconstructed altarpiece along with x-rays and other ephemera. Using common materials such as steel, glass, and plastic in subtle and precise ways, the sculptor transforms spaces into gorgeous environments that suggest, with great delicacy and refinement, the beauty and illusion of the natural world. The seven artists in this exhibition will examine the interpersonal intricacies of this militant security model through a series of performances exploring the spaces of the Creative Research Laboratory. Total eclipses of the sun provoke astonishment, anxiety, hope, joy, and fear and compel those who witness them to question their place in the world. For his project, 200 people gathered in the stands of UT's Darrel K. Royal Texas Memorial Stadium and staged 4 solar eclipses that will occur in Texas over the course of the next 340 years. In a carefully choreographed performance, participants held up black and white signs in a simulation of each eclipse.
