The Academic Advising Team in the College of Fine Arts

The Departmental advisor and staff in the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs Division work as a team to provide academic advising support to undergraduate students. We encourage you to keep the following general guidelines in mind when considering where to go if you need assistance.

See your Departmental Advisor

  • during the required pre-registration and registration advising periods.
  • if you have questions about your degree program.
  • if you want to change your major or declare simultaneous major. Major changes only during official advising times. Consult the Course Schedule.
  • if you are having academic or personal difficulties and need assistance.
  • if you wish to request a letter stating satisfactory progress toward your degree to send to the Office of Student Financial Services.
  • when summoned by mail or phone to visit your advisor.

Note:
Sometimes complications develop or rules and regulations change, and a departmental advisor may refer you to the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs Division for further assistance or guidance.

Go to the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs Division

  • if you want permission to take fewer than 12 or more than 17 hours.
  • if you want to make changes in your registration status after the 12th class day (examples include: changing a course to or from Pass/Fail status, dropping a course, withdrawing from the University).
  • if you need to update your local address.
  • if you are having academic or personal difficulties and need assistance.
  • if you wish to petition to have one class substituted for another in your degree requirements.
  • if you need to know how classes from another college/university will transfer to UT Austin.
  • if you want permission to take a course concurrently at another school, through correspondence, or through University Extension, or if you want approval for credit by exam.
  • when you have completed 60 hours and need a degree audit.
  • when summoned by mail or phone to visit the office.
  • when you are ready to apply for graduation (You need to apply at the beginning of a the semester you plan to graduate).

Remember
ALWAYS bring a photo ID with you when you visit any advisor so that he/she may verify your identity before he/she can access your official records.
