The programs of the College of Fine Arts are not bound to admit only students graduating in the top 10% of their classes. Applicants to The College of Fine Arts are admitted both on academic record and conspicuous evidence of artistic interest and accomplishment. This process typically involves a portfolio review or audition.
The College of Fine Arts at The University of Texas at Austin has superb fine arts programs for undergraduates with a passion for the arts. Through the Butler School of Music, the college offers a comprehensive program of music including band, choral, orchestral, jazz, music education, music business and recording arts. The Department of Theatre and Dance offers concentrations in acting, directing, dance, design, theatre technology and theatre studies (teacher certification). The Department of Art and Art History offers courses in art history, art teacher certification, community–based art education, ceramics, design, drawing, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and transmedia. Fine arts majors may even explore a "Bridging Disciplines" concentration in digital arts and media. (Architecture, film, and fashion design are offered through other departments on campus.)
Students may choose to study the arts on a pre–professional degree track (Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Fine Arts), as part of a well–rounded liberal arts education (Bachelor of Arts) or even as a non–major (many members of the Longhorn Band and Blanton Student Art Guild are non– majors.) We pride ourselves in giving every undergraduate fine arts major the sort of small–college attention that is normally found only in private universities costing two or three times as much as The University of Texas.
