What you enjoy most about being a part of the UT Department of Theatre & Dance OR Describe your most memorable experience(s) while teaching in the Department:

The realization of a long time vision for the Dance Area with the inauguration of the first M.F.A. in Dance in the department; and the coordination and implementation of dancers traveling abroad to perform in the Tanzsommer International Dance Festival.

Favorite things about Austin:

You can be near “water” quite easily; and you can eat at a different restaurant almost everyday for a year before repeating.

Current projects/research/interests/hobbies:

09–10 DRT Concert Cancion del Cuerpo” which will consist of a series of parallel residencies between choreographers Alvaro Restrepo, Artistic Director El Colegio Del Cuerpo del Cuerpo de Cartagena de Indias, Colombia and Lyn C. Wiltshire, Artistic Director Dance Repertory Theatre. Movement for the dancers of El Colegio is completely integral to their being and has been shaped by Alvaro to free them mentally and physically from poverty and the oppressive situations of Cartegena. Movement for the dancers in Advanced Projects in Dance Performance and Repertory is a course of study. The collaborative goal is to examine, prepare and produce an experience for persons for whom dance has nothing to do with ego and technical achievement and have them partner with dancers here in PDPR who experience dance as a social undertaking is the thrust of this project.

The biggest risk you have taken to date (can be career-related or not):

Was to move away from New York City.

Something about yourself that we wouldn't know from reading your professional biography:

My other love besides dance is art. I love to draw. My medium is pointilism — the technique of representing the shadows and highlights of a picture using dots. My colors of choice are black and white. Technology is so sophisticated I am able to begin investigating the technique with the computer.
