Full Name:
Kathleen Kislingbury
Major/Year:
B.F.A. in Dance, Junior
Favorite class in Theatre & Dance and why:
My favorite class is our PDPR class where we rehearse and prepare for our performances. This means rehearsal for DRT (Dance Repertory Theatre), which is mostly professor or guest artist work and it also means rehearsal for Ears, Eyes + Feet which gives students from three different departments the opportunity to collaborate and create work. I have gained so much respect for my fellow dancers and professors by seeing how their artistic minds create work.
Favorite thing about Austin:
The diversity of Austin has always been a huge bonus for me. There are so many types of people, food, and music around that you can always take an adventure to a new place and experience something completely different, which I find very important and beneficial not only for my school work but also for opening up my experiences as a person. The opportunities that surface in this city are also a very important aspect of why I love it so much. I can go to auditions, see dance shows, poetry readings, theater plays and live music almost any night of the week (if my homework allows for it!)
Favorite place to study:
My favorite place to study would probably have to be the Fine Arts Library or the Starbucks in the Red Zone. The library has huge windows and a quiet atmosphere and Starbucks has amazing music and coffee!
Brief biography (including projects, awards, accomplishments):
I was born in Sherman, Texas and moved to Galveston when I was about two. I have been dancing for about 16 years now and have been in a large variety of performances ranging from acting to singing and of course dancing. Performances include: Peter and the Wolf (Peter), Coppelia, Grease (Patty Simcox), Cabaret (Rosie), La Bayedare, Giselle, Sleeping Beauty (Carabosse), Hades Ladies (Sharon) and many more. I was honored and excited to dance at the Classical Ballet Festival, South by Southwest and and Houston's Free Press Summerfest.
Current projects/research/interests:
Currently I am working on many pieces inside and out of the university including: Romulus Ate, Galveston Ballet Fall Repertoire work and pieces to audition next year. I am interested in getting into acting not only for the amazing performance aspect of it, but also the opportunities and offers it will pose as a performer.
