Full Name:
Heather Koslov
Major/Year:
Theatre & Dance — Concentration in Costume Design; Textiles & Apparel — Concentration in Design
Favorite class in Theatre & Dance and why:
My favorite TD class has to be TD311 with Denise Martel because it was the first theatre class I had ever taken in my life, and is the reason that I am involved in theatre today. What I learned in that class still keeps me creative, inspired, and curious about all aspects of theatre.
Favorite thing about Austin:
The lovely southern weather, the gigantic Whole Foods, and my old workplace, Toy Joy on Guadalupe. I love that in Austin, there is always somewhere new to explore. Probably my favorite Austin event so far is the Texas Rollergirls Rollerderby.
Favorite place to study:
I would prefer not to study! But I usually find myself in the costume shop, because it's always nice to be sewing with the company of others!
Brief biography (including projects, awards, accomplishments):
I was born and raised in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Bellaire High School in 2004. I have loved clothing and costume since before I can remember, and I decided to come to UT where I could study both fashion and costuming at the same time. I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to study abroad in both Vienna and Paris, which were amazing experiences. Aside from UT, I have also taken classes at both Pratt Institute and Parsons School of Design (no, Tim Gunn was not my teacher) and worked at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston to explore my love of clothing and art. So far I have enjoyed all of my experiences at UT and look forward to learning much more in my time here!
Current projects/research/interests:
In Spring 2007 I will be learning both Flat Patterning and Computer Aided Design through the TXA program, and will also be assistant costume designer for Marat/Sade, as well as heading the Artists Exchange Committee of the University Coop presents the Cohen New Works Festival, for which I am excited to be working on two shows, UT Connections and Threading Through.
