Theatre and Dance

Eric Andrew Vera

Full Name:

Eric Andrew Vera

Major/Year:
BFA in Theatre Studies / Junior

Favorite class in Theatre &Dance and why:

Stephen Gerald's Directing I class. His class was just one of those classes that reaffirmed my decision to become a Theatre teacher. Every assignment in his class was beneficial to me on so many levels. When you picture yourself in college, and what theatre classes would be like, this is it. Not to mention he is just a brilliant Director.

Favorite thing about Austin:

I would say the Mexican food, but I come from the real deal so I can't say that. I'd have to say the great theatre! There are so many different places in and around Austin that house some great productions. I loved every show I've seen at the Zach Scott and when I want my Broadway fix I am at the Bass Concert Hall.

Favorite place to study:

Honestly, my best friend's house. Something about the place and her company that makes me get to work. (Well procrastinate a whole lot first, and then get to work) If that is not an option, you will probably find me in the Union with a large carbonated drink of some kind.

Brief biography (including projects, awards, accomplishments):

I grew up in Brownsville Texas, where the theatre life was minimal. Luckily, I found the Camille Lightner Playhouse, where I discovered my love for the theatre. It was there where I met my mentor Ben Agresti, the Artistic Director of the Camille, who taught me everything there is to know about the theatre and then some. In my time there I was in Grease, My Fair Lady, Godspell, Father of the Bride, Wait Until Dark, Hair, and Oliver! Every summer I come back to the Camille to teach at the Summer Theatre Workshop for Children in which we've run productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, The Wiz, Disney's 101 Dalmatians, Cinderella, The Jungle Book, and Aladdin.

Here in the University of Texas, I started my theatre career off in the First Year Player's Production of Ladies of the Corridor. In the Department, I was in Boomtown Ghost Town, The Marriage of Miss Hollywood and King Neptune, and just recently finished a run in Holes. I even took a stab at Stage Management. I was the SM for Aisle 7 and the Directing the Young Performer Festival.

Current projects/research/interests:

I am currently in a production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella that will run in December. I am also an employee at the Performing Art Center ticket office. Spending time with my family, especially my niece and nephew, is always something to look forward to.
