Full Name:
Kimberley Wilson
Major/Year:
B.A. in Theatre and Dance with Musical Theatre focus
Favorite class in Theatre & Dance and why:
My favorite class since I've been at UT is Acting III with Lucien Douglas. I feel like that's the class that really made me into an actress. Although I've done theatre since before I can remember, something really clicked that semester. It was the first time I truly enveloped myself into the world, mind, body, and soul of a character; instead of acting, I started being. That's something Lucien really likes to focus on in his classes, and I feel like the techniques and training I learned will really help me in any role in the future.
Favorite thing about Austin:
I love this city! It's a great place for young adults to explore and grow into their own person, and the live theatre scene is really fantastic. There's so much to do here, I don't think I could ever see it all.
Favorite place to study:
Mozart's on the lake. It's this adorable coffee and pastry shop with a huge outdoor patio with big tables for studying. On weekends they have live music, and if you like being outside, it's a great place to just relax…not that I ever get to see the outside world or anything. Most of my time is spent at the Winship building. I'm in that building way more than I am at home!
Brief biography (including projects, awards, accomplishments):
I'm originally from Little Rock, Arkansas, where I received several state awards in high school theatre at the Arkansas State Thespian festival, including 1st place in the Duet Musical and Group Musical categories, as well as placing in the top three finalists for Acting two years in a row. I have also performed at the nationally acclaimed Arkansas Repertory Theatre, where I was actively involved in musical theatre camps for most of my childhood and awarded the Director's scholarship of 2008. Here at UT, I've performed in several shows, playing “Mary” in Reefer Madness, “Rapunzel” in Into the Woods, and I have been seen in several showcases including my most recent project, Miscast with The Phoenix Theatre Company.
Current projects/research/interests:
Right now I am in rehearsals for the UT Mainstage production of Steve Mould's Emergency Prom, directed by Courtney Sale. I am about to begin rehearsals for next semester's department production Threepenny Opera, directed by Halena Kayes. I am very excited about getting to experience “the other side of the casting table” by assisting Lucien Douglas in his M.F.A. piece, which goes up in April. Also, I am currently collaborating in producing and directing an abridged version of the musical Chicago in the Fall of 2011. After graduation, I plan on joining my fellow artists in the Big Apple to chase after my dreams of Broadway.
