Dance Repertory Theatre members performing in the Tanzsommer Festival
The University of Texas at Austin, Dance Repertory Theatre is the performing ensemble for dance majors pursuing a B.F.A. in Dance. Students in the B.A. in Theatre and Dance with a dance emphasis also participate. The role of DRT in the Department of Theatre and Dance is to encourage collaborations between dance artists, choreographers, directors and musicians toward the goal of bringing dance closer to the everyday public. The educational experience may include improvisation, audience interaction and choreographed works inspired by creative exploration, architecture as space and personal environment as quality of movement.
Dance Repertory Theatre members in the St. Johann Mountains
This year, Dance Repertory Theatre will premiere four new dances in the Young Tanzsommer Festival 2006. “Flying Colors” by Fred Mathews provides a colorful, distinctive and expressive journey into Bach's Concerto in E Major. Andrea Beckham. entices viewers by weaving a canvas of music and bold movement capturing the nuances of Mozart's Marriage of Figaro Overture in her work “There and Not There.” The rich and textured score of David Karagianis supports the pure and powerful theme for Lyn C. Wiltshire's “General Truths: Based on limited or incomplete evidence.” And lastly, an exciting twist unfolds for jean–clad dancers in “Designer Genes,” fusing contemporary jazz and urban rhythms.
The aspiring dancer experiences personal growth, discipline and professional development and it is with great pleasure that Professors Beckham and Wiltshire return to Austria to share the artistry of Dance Repertory Theatre with this audience.
