About Us
There And Not There, Beckham
The Department of Theatre and Dance's Dance Repertory Theatre often shows up in surprising places and achieves equally surprising artistic triumphs. Over the past year they have danced their way through the University Co-op Presents Cohen New Works Festival, the 2007 spring concert, Ways to Get There directed by Holly Williams, an artistic collaboration with the School of Music in Ears, Eyes and Feet, and most recently, Lived Experience!, directed by Lyn C. Wiltshire.
So why should the summer of 2008 be any different? For the third time since 2004, Dance Repertory Theatre has been invited back to Young! Tanzsommer, the "Stars of Tomorrow" for six exciting performances, in Innsbruck, Lienz, Axams and St. Johann, Austria. Katarina Arneric, Amanda Beittel, Mary Chase, Mariclaire Gamble, Sarah Goocher, Mallory Harnden, Lisa Kobdish, Katherine Kunze, Emily Larson, Erin Lee, Elissa Marshall, Jessica Martinez, Rachel Saathoff, Michelle Stuckey, Emily Walker, and Krystal Wigfield, will share their talents with European audiences under the direction of Professors Lyn C. Wiltshire. and Andrea Beckham.
UT Dancers' Rehearsal
In a continued effort to enhance the education of dance majors an affiliation with Young! Tanzsommer Austria, the "Stars of Tomorrow" has been created. The dance majors of the department will perform at the biggest and first self–contained theatre in Europe, the Dogana Theatre, in Innsbruck for an audience of approximately 3,000 subscribers and school children. At the Elizabethinum, a support center for people with disabilities in Axams and in St. Johann in Tirol for well over 1,000 audience members.
Although the rigors of traveling, rehearsing and performing may prove to be a challenge to the dancers, Lyn C. Wiltshire explains, "This tour provides them with a clear indication of what life on tour would be like." In participating in programs like Young! Tanzsommer, their dance education spans a cultural divide as they gain valuable professional experience.
