General Information:
There is a hierarchy of priority to room scheduling in the Winship building. Scheduled classes are first, followed by rehearsal space for the mainstage productions. After these have been scheduled, all other spaces will be reserved by request only, including non-curricular work by majors. All requests require a Theatre & Dance faculty sponsor. Generally performance spaces (B. Iden Payne, Oscar G. Brockett and Laboratory Theatre) are not available to non-department majors due to the demands of the theatre and dance production program. Access to other “high demand” spaces may also be limited.
Room requests will be confirmed via e-mail unless requested in person.
Rooms should be left clean and in classroom order.
Furniture should not be altered or removed.
All activities in the building should be concluded such that students may vacate the building by eleven o'clock at night. The building monitors secure all rooms before they leave for the evening.
Requesting a Room:
- Go to Winship Front Desk (WIN 1.142) and get a Room Reservation Request form from the front desk worker. (They are golden-colored.)
- Ask front desk worker to check availability of a room at a specific day/time (Front Desk worker(s) has view-only access to the room calendars on his/her computer).
- Fill out form completely and hand it to the Front Desk Worker.
- Return to the Front Desk the next day and ask the front desk worker for your completed form. If it has been processed, front desk worker will have it in a stack and will give it to you. If it has not been processed, come back later or the following day.
- If approved, the room is yours. That paper room reservation request is proof that you have the room reserved. If denied, then submit another request. The rooms you requested were unavailable.
Incomplete forms will not be processed.
Forms submitted less than two BUSINESS days in advance will not be processed.
Students may not reserve space more than two weeks in advance.
The Department reserves the right to limit the number of reservations a student may make all at once, or over a semester.
University Holidays and Summer
The Department does not reserve rooms on official University holidays. After-hours and weekend reservations are not taken over the summer or during official interim periods due to a lack of building monitors.
Specific Spaces:
- Brockett or Payne Theatres:
The Brockett and Payne Theatres are controlled and reserved through the Texas Performing Arts. Requests to use these spaces should be submitted at least 90 days in advance of the requested date(s) to scheduling@texasperformingarts.org. - Dance Studios:
The dance studios are primarily for use by dance students, classes and faculty only. Other movement rehearsals may be requested by Theatre & Dance majors or staff but will require additional dance area approval. Please include proof of dance area approval for studio requests. - No shoes may be worn in the dance studios except for ballet or jazz shoes. No food or drink may be taken into the studio. No furniture should be taken into the studio. Any violation of these rules may result in loss of reservation privileges.
- Lab Theatre:
Artistic Vision
By providing a unique space that supports the diversity of student talent in the Department of Theatre and Dance, The Lab seeks to foster artistic growth by empowering student artists to risk, explore, and hurl themselves with wild abandon beyond the limits of their expertise.
Mission
The Lab supports the many pursuits of Department of Theatre and Dance students, both graduate and undergraduate, by presenting a season of exclusively student-driven work. The Lab is most interested in projects that fall outside the parameters of The Department of Theatre and Dance season: high risk projects in which students are either presenting new or interdisciplinary work, taking on new artistic roles, or tackling styles and/or subject matter that pushes the boundaries of performance at UT. Ideally, The Lab will function as a true laboratory for students' creative work — a space brimming with experimentation. - Graduate and undergraduate Theatre and Dance students are encouraged to apply for a slot in the Spring 2011 Lab season. Please download the instructions and application form.
