(AUSTIN, TX) – The University of Texas at Austin's Dance Repertory Theatre presents cutting–edge, contemporary choreography in a variety of new works by faculty, students, and guest artists in Lived Experience! Dance Reflections Transferred or Layered, February 22nd–24th!
Dance Repertory Theatre, UT's award–winning student dance company, presents seven performances, including excerpts of Twyla Tharp's rare production The Fugue*, staged by Guest Repetiteur, Shelley Washington. Washington, who joined the Twyla Tharp Dance Company in 1975, continues to work with Ms. Tharp by setting, staging, and directing ballets for various companies on her behalf. Only a handful of companies have been granted license to perform The Fugue* since it's premiere in 1970. Tharp explains, "It's the first piece of mine I consider intact. I take it personally, very seriously."
Other pieces include Sister and Nursery by Mary A. Chase; Exister No Es Ser by Yebel Gallegos; Isabella by Julie Nathanielsz; Futari Tomo, a piece from Co–Artistic Director, Holly Williams' originally presented at the 2007 University Co–op presents the Cohen News Works Festival; and Remembering Qualities, a new work from Artistic Director Lyn C. Wiltshire.
Lived Experience! runs February 22–23 at 8:00 pm & February 24 at 2:00 pm at UT TPA's B. Iden Payne Theatre, Winship Drama Building (300 E. 23rd Street). Tickets are $16 for general public, $13 UT faculty/staff and $10 students, available at www.texasperformingarts.org, or (512) 477–6060 or at door (cash only).
