The University of Texas Department of Theatre and Dance presents a new adaptation of Euripides' ancient tragedy, THE TROJAN WOMEN, October 30 – November 8, 2009, at the Oscar G. Brockett Theatre. In the third installment of the Trojan War trilogy, the war is over and great city has fallen. Among the rubble, women wait to hear their fate at the hands of the victorious army, struggling to survive, refusing to give in, and somehow finding hope in the most unexpected places.
Combining contemporary sensibilities with classic text, this new adaptation by 2nd year M.F.A. in Playwriting candidates, Meghan Kennedy and Kimber Lee, “is breathtaking”, director and 2nd year M.F.A. in Directing candidate Halena Kays describes. “They've incorporated some incredible theatricality and action into this beautiful story that will make for a thrilling show. There are fights, dances, a band and a show stopping rock and roll number… This is not your ordinary Trojan Women.”
Halena Kays most recently conceived and directed 101 Ways to… for the 2009 University Co-op Presents the Cohen New Works Festival and directed Lidless for UT New Theatre (UTNT.)
THE TROJAN WOMEN features Set Design by Peter Holtin, Costume Design by Alison Heryer (410 [GONE], Summer People), and Lighting Design by Cheng-Wei Teng (The Idiot).
Join us Friday, October 30th for an Opening Night Reception immediately following the performance. Guests will be able to mingle with the cast, crew, and director of The Trojan Women while enjoying an assortment of light snacks and desserts.
