Why UT?
Selecting a graduate program can be a difficult process. Our Office of Graduate Studies is full of helpful information. Some of the topics addressed are: Quality; Outreach and Diversity; Application Information; and Financial Considerations.
Degrees Offered
The UT Department of Theatre and Dance offers programs leading to the M.A., M.F.A. and Ph.D. degrees. View our Degree Programs page to get an overview of each program, including admissions information.
Academic Loads
The Graduate School recognizes nine semester hours during a long semester (fall, spring) and three hours during a summer session as a minimum full-time course load. Holders of fellowships and scholarships, assistant instructors, teaching assistants and graduate research assistants must be registered full-time during the term of their appointment. For more complete information about course loads, consult The Graduate Catalog.
Tuition and Fees
Tuition at the University of Texas at Austin is among the most competitive in the United States. Please visit the Office of Accounting website for approximate tuition and fee rates.
Financial Aid
There is not a separate application form to complete for departmental financial assistance. Financial assistance for graduate students in the Department of Theatre and Dance includes assistantships, scholarships and fellowships. Departmental awards, unlike University financial aid, are based on excellence. Student assistantships paying $1275-$1785 per semester, are also available in return for clerical or productions assistance, depending on assignment. Eligible students may be appointed to serve as teaching assistants at a rate of approximately $1951-$3902 per semester or, with an M.A. or the equivalent of an M.A. degree, as assistant instructors at a rate of approximately $2279-$4558 per semester.
Action cannot be taken on scholarship applications until admission to the Graduate School has been granted.
For information concerning various scholarships, loans, grants and need-based financial aid available outside of the Department of Theatre and Dance, please contact the Office of Student Financial Services.
