Mandatory Advising

ADVISING IS HERE!

All Theatre and Dance majors must be advised during the official mandatory advising period, Monday, October 23rd through Wednesday, November 1st. Students who do not participate in mandatory advising prior to the Nov. 1 deadline will not have their advising bars removed and will be unable to register until January 2007. Please thoroughly read and save this email. You may also wish to print out a copy.

STEPS FOR GETTING ADVISED:

1. Review your on-line RIS (Registration Information Sheet) via: https://utdirect.utexas.eduregistrar/ris.WBX
   1. A. Review your local contact information (email, postal, telephone). Is it correct? If not, follow the web link provided on your on-line RIS to update them! Incorrect contact information will result in a dean's office registration bar!
   2. B. Review your registration bars. Do you have any? If so, clear them prior to your registration access periods!
   3. C. Review your RIS for all the dates and times for your registration access periods (Access period #1)
2. Check the Mandatory Advising Assignments on the bulletin board outside of WIN 1.118 to see who your advisor is this semester. There is a faculty directory posted just below the advising assignments that you can use to locate faculty office locations. You can also look up your Faculty Advisor's email address on the UT Directory at: http://www.utexas.edu/directory/ Inform Kristen if you do not see your name on the list of mandatory advising assignments.
3. Make an appointment to be advised with your assigned advisor no later than Wednesday, November 1st at 5PM. If you are assigned to see Kristen you can sign up for an advising appointment via a sign up sheet posted on the door of her office. Important note: Students assigned to Faculty Advisors should make an appointment asap. Your Faculty Advisor may only have a couple of scheduled days to advise and if you fail to make an appointment, or miss your appointment, you will not have the opportunity to register until the week prior to the beginning of class in January!
4. Pick up your degree audit in advance of your advising appointment. BFA Theatre Studies majors should also pick up a BFA Studies Info packet in addition to a degree audit before getting advised. Don't forget to bring your audit with you to your advising appointment!
   1. You can pick up your degree audit (and a BFA Theatre Studies Info Packet for BFA Studies majors) by visiting Anne-Marie McKaskle, Orientation Advisor, in the Atrium. Anne-Marie is available to pre-advise students (before they meet with a staff or faculty advisor), to answer basic questions and to distribute audits and BFA Info Packets at the following dates/times:
      Monday 10/23: 12:00 -3:30 PM
      Wednesday 10/25: 12:00 - 3:00 PM
      Friday 10/27: 12:00 - 3:00 PM
      Monday 10/30: 12:00 -4:00 PM
      Tuesday 10/31: 1:00- 2:00 PM and 4:00- 5:00 PM
      Wednesday 11/1: 12:00 -4:00 PM Last day of Mandatory Advising!
      
   2. TD Students may also see Kristen in WIN 1.118 to pick up your degree audit and a BFA Theatre Studies Info packet on days/times when Anne-Marie is not available in the Atrium.
5. Review the online course schedule and your degree audit to select courses for the Spring semester. the online course schedule can be found at: http://www.utexas.edu/student/registrar/
6. Meet with your assigned advisor between the dates of October 23- November 1.
7. Turn your "Advising Bar Clearance Sheet" in to Kristen in WIN 1.118 prior to November 2 at 5PM to have your advising bar removed so that you can register for the Spring 2007 semester. If you turn in your "Advising Bar Clearance Sheet" after 5PM on November 2cnd your bar will not be cleared until next semester and you will not have the opportunity to register until the week prior to the beginning of class in January! Please do not contact Kristen via email to be advised. You must be advised in person following the procedure outlined above. DO NOT WAIT TO BE ADVISED AT THE LAST MINUTE! ADVISING ENDS AT 5:00 PM 11/01/2006!
