UT Official Student Services and Academic Advising from the Undergraduate Catalog
The College of Fine Arts is a mandatory advising college; all currently enrolled Theatre and Dance majors must meet with an assigned advisor each semester during the official mandatory advising period. Failure to participate in mandatory advising will result in a student's inability to participate in early registration.
LONG SESSION ACADEMIC CALENDAR
COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS STUDENT SERVICES
I've been attending the class, but my professor says I'm not on the roster! What do I do?
You must visit Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103, 512–471–5011) and petition to late add the class. The appeals process consists of writing a letter and obtaining faculty advisor and instructor approvals. The Registration Appeals committee will review your request – approval is NOT guaranteed. The longer you wait to do this, the less amenable the committee will be to your request.
I am sick or have personal circumstances that make it wise to withdraw for the semester. What do I do?
If you wish to withdraw due to medical reasons, contact University Health Services at 475–8349.
I registered for the class, it is after the 12th class day, but now I want to drop it. What do I do?
Go directly to the Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103) to pick up an Add/Drop form before the mid–semester drop deadline. See the current Academic Calendar for a schedule of deadlines. After the deadline, you will have to petition the appeals committee. Your life will be much simpler if you drop by the deadline!
I need my faculty advisor's signature, but I don't remember who I'm assigned to! OR my faculty advisor is on leave. What do I do?
Until faculty advisor assignments are posted, ask the Academic Advisor to look the information up for you. If you know who your advisor is, but that person is on leave, go to the Main Office (WIN. 1.144) and ask for the Chairman's signature.
I hope to graduate this December. What do I do?
Visit Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103) BEFORE the mid semester deadline and fill out a graduation application.
I want to change a course to Pass/Fail. What do I do?
You must seek approval from Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103) BEFORE the mid semester deadline. After the mid'semester deadline, you will have to submit a petition to the College of Fine Arts Appeals Committee.
Students must have completed 30 hours of coursework before they are eligible to take a course Pass/Fail.
What courses can I take Pass/Fail?
Only elective courses can be taken Pass/Fail. If you are a Theatre and Dance major, you cannot take any class offered by this department on a pass/fail basis.
I have earned 60 hours' should I take any specific action?
Yes! Go to Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103) and fill out a request for an official degree audit.
I ran an Interactive Degree Audit (IDA) and it seriously confused me. What do I do?
The Interactive Degree Audit has trouble reconciling the requirements of our degrees due to our approved concentration/elective requirements. Most likely you will need to submit your concentration and elective form Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103) in order to use this program successfully. In the meantime, make an appointment with an advisor and if you have reached 60 hours, order an official copy of your audit from Student Affairs, College of Fine Arts (DFA
1.103).
I have an academic situation that requires special accommodations. What do I do?
If you need a professor to make special classroom or testing arrangements, you must work through the Services for Students with Disabilities office. The documentation provided through that office is the only information that your instructor is required to consider. The rules are VERY specific, so contact the SSD office right away if you need special arrangements. The number is 471-6259.
I want to contest a grade that I received last semester. What do I do?
Follow these steps:
Make an inquiry to the instructor of the course.
If unable to resolve the complaint with the instructor, the student should direct to the chair of the Department a letter stating the nature of the concern. In addition, the student's name, EID, the course number, unique number, instructor, and student's phone number should be included in the letter.
The chair will review the letter, speak to the appropriate instructor, and will take one of two actions:
(a) Respond to the student in writing regarding the nature of his findings
(b) The chair will arrange a meeting with the student and the instructor in order to try and arrive at some consensus.
