Flesh and the Desert by Carson Kreitzer

A New Work Premiere

October 7-16 in UT's Oscar G Brockett Theatre

The University of Texas Department of Theatre & Dance kicks off an exciting new season with Flesh and the Desert, a new work by UT grad student Carson Kreitzer (James A. Michener Center MFA in Playwright candidate), already an accomplished playwright with works produced in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta and London.

Flesh and the Desert is the true story of a jazz musician and a dancer who met in Las Vegas in the early years. They fell in love and still are today. This drama takes you on a kaleidoscopic journey through Vegas, intertwining the stories of three couples: one ghostly, one long-lasting and one just starting. Along the way the audience meets Elvis and Liberace, slot machines, Siberian white tigers, and of course, those glittering creatures -Showgirls. Flesh and the Desert is a play about Las Vegas dazzle, love, and hope.

A reading of Flesh garnered great reviews and a lot of buzz during the University Co-op Presents the David Mark Cohen New Works Festival in Spring 2005. Now the highly anticipated play, directed by Robi Polgar and starring UT students along with two well-known Austin actors Robert Faires and Kathryn Katmull, premieres October 7, 8, 13, 14, & 16 @ 8:00 PM and October 8,9, & 16 @ 2:00 PM in UT's Oscar G. Brockett Theatre, 300 E. 23rd in the Winship Drama Building. Tickets are $16 adults; $13 faculty/staff; $10 students, available at 477-6060.
