- Synopsis
Play synopsis: The story follows a young girl named Katrina, tasked with leading her elderly Aunt Beulah and neighbor Mr. Thibeaux to safety as the hurricane hits. As the city lays ravaged by the storm, Katrina begins a journey to get name back, aided by the people, spirit, and music of New Orleans.
The production is one of the first theatre productions in the country to address the events surrounding hurricane Katrina. Live, New Orleans-style music inhabits the entire performance, fusing music and theatre into a seamless celebration of the people and spirit of New Orleans.
While the play is focused on youth, it is a story that will connect with people of all ages. Particularly poignant for those with a personal connection to New Orleans or hurricane Katrina, the play should speak to anyone who has struggled, or anyone who has hoped when odds were against them. Rather than an exercise in pitying the victims of hurricane Katrina, this should be an experience that people can rally around - inspired to resurrect one of America's most treasured cities.
