‘Repurpose, Retool’ is a collaborative performance piece representing the efforts of students from departments across the UT campus. It integrates dance, music, visual design, and technology into a novel whole inspired by the group's collective affection for the responsible practice of recycling. This inspiration rears its head in a variety of ways. Oft recycled materials appear continuously throughout the piece: visually, audibly, literally, and in the kinesthetic explorations of the dancers. Musical and visual themes are reused throughout the performance and, perhaps most dramatically, game controllers are repurposed to ‘recycle’ dancer gestures into agents of musical and visual control.
In these five vignettes, the audience will find separating trash reimagined as a groovy, multi-faceted spectacle.
EXPERIENCE
Choreographer: Krystal Wigfield
Composer: Justin Sharp
Dancers: Amnih Abotteen, Natalie Freeman, Erin Lee, Kara Newton, Janna Rock, Shelby Smith
This work explores experiences within different kinds of relationships. Each section describes relationship in terms of movement qualities and interaction. The music evolved entirely from a predetermined list of adjectives describing each section of the piece. Pitch plays an important role in the music. The different sections contrast each other not only in style and character, but also in the types and amount of pitch material used.

THE BLUE JAR
Choreographer: Michelle Stuckey
Composer: Travis Jeffers
Costume Designer: Laura Winslow
Performers: Elissa Marshall and Cooper Neely
Based on the short story The Blue Jar by Isak Dinesen. A sailor and woman spend nine days on a life boat together. Upon their rescue and return home the sailor is sent to the other side of the world. When the woman learns that he has been sent away she leaves home and sails the world for a specific color blue jar. "…the ship of which I speak is always exactly beneath my own ship, upon the opposite side of the globe. You have never seen a big fish swimming underneath a boat, following it like a dark-blue shade in the water. But in that way this ship goes, like the shadow of my ship, and I draw it to and fro wherever I go, as the moon draws the tides, all through the bulk of the earth."
