Dance Faculty
Andrew Parkhurst's NYC work includes the world premiere production of Wood (starring Tony Award winner Cady Huffman) for the 2008 New York Musical Theatre Festival; the first New York City revival of Michael John LaChiusa's The Wild Party at Columbia Stages; and Penguin Rep's 2010 production of Over the Tavern.
Regionally, Mr. Parkhurst has choreographed Brigadoon for The Barnstormers Theatre New Hampshire; Much Ado About Nothing and Love's Labour's Lost for the Illinois Shakespeare Festival; and Hats, Married Alive, Cactus Flower, Run For Your Wife and Boeing-Boeing for the New Theatre, Kansas City. In Summer 2010, Andrew will choreograph Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story at the New Theatre, and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at The Barnstormers. In August 2010, Andrew is co-producer and writer of PianoDivalicious!, a one-woman piano comedy act headlining Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Andrew assisted Tony Award-winning choreographer Rob Ashford on the Broadway production of Curtains, and was an original cast member and Dance Captain of the Broadway national tour of Mamma Mia! Andrew had the honor of being directed by Roman Polanski in the original Vienna production of Tanz der Vampire as Dance Soloist. He was chosen and directed by Alvin Ailey at the age of 16 to dance in Memoria. Andrew danced onstage at Radio City Music Hall on the 2009 Tony Awards, telecast live on CBS.
As an educator, Andrew enjoyed two years teaching American musical theatre dance styles at the Vienna Musical School and Tanz Forum Wien. He spent 2007-2008 as Artist-in-Residence at Princeton Day School, where he inaugurated and developed the curriculum for their dance program and Summer Theatre Conservatory. He has toured the USA, Canada and Mexico conducting master classes and workshops on dance and choreography for the musical theatre. Andrew holds a B.F.A. in Modern Dance from Texas Christian University and is an Associate of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.
